The U.S. Mission to ICAO hosted a virtual lunch event focused on climate change and aviation for the President of the Council, Secretary General, and Council members of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on May 20. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry delivered a poignant video message emphasizing the special role and responsibility of ICAO in global efforts to fight climate change. FAA Assistant Administrator for Policy, International Affairs, and Environment Laurence Wildgoose explained FAA’s commitment to and expectations of ICAO in global efforts to decarbonize the aviation sector. Through the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), ICAO is pioneering the first sector-wide approach to reducing carbon emissions, which ICAO, its member states, and aviation stakeholders are constructing and implementing to show leadership and complement efforts under the Paris Agreement.
